12 trekking days plus rest days to explore and recharge. The second week will follow ancient paths deep in the mountains of southeast Albania. It is less travelled and explored, which will give greater opportunity to mix with local people and culture - an experience you will never forget!
Albania, Kosovo, and Montenegro - crossing borders on foot
Epic distances through the legendary Accursed Mountains
Conquer Kosovo's highest peak at 2,656 meters
Arrive in Tirana, Albania and transfer to the mountain village of Theth (3 hours 15 minutes). Your home for the night is Guesthouse Kujtimi, a charming local guesthouse with authentic Albanian breakfasts and dinners. Rest up - tomorrow the real adventure begins!
Theth to Valbona via Valbona Pass
The most famous hike on the entire trail! Ascend through forests to emerge above the tree line, then push to Valbona Pass (1,797m) for stunning panoramic views. Steep, rocky descent into the beautiful Valbona Valley.

Valbona to Doberdol via Çerem
A 4x4 transfer to Çerem saves energy for the spectacular hiking ahead. Trek through remote shepherds' territory to Doberdol, experiencing profound isolation and traditional mountain life. This is the Balkans few travelers ever see.
Expect authentic hospitality, home-cooked meals, and possibly traditional entertainment at this remote mountain guesthouse!
Doberdol to Gjeravica Summit to Grand Hotel Gjeravica
Your biggest challenge and greatest reward! Ascend via the Three Border Summit to reach Gjeravica (2,656m), Kosovo's highest peak. Pass glacial lakes and traverse alpine meadows with panoramic views of the Accursed Mountains. The 17 km journey includes two significant ascents before descending to the Grand Hotel Gjeravica.
Bring 3-4 liters of water and plenty of snacks. Weather changes quickly at altitude - pack layers. GPS navigation recommended for some unmarked sections.
Grand Hotel Gjeravica to Babino Polje to Plav
Cross from Kosovo into Montenegro on this long but rewarding day. Take the lower bypass route around Gjeravica peak, traversing at moderate elevation through varied terrain. The descent to Babino Polje can be tricky with faint paths near streams - GPS essential. From Babino Polje, transport takes you to the well-equipped town of Plav.

Important: Border crossing permits required (arranged in advance).

You've earned it! Explore the charming town of Plav, do laundry, resupply for the days ahead, and enjoy a leisurely day by beautiful Lake Plav. Your private cabins at Butina Selimaj provide the perfect base for relaxation.
Take time to soak in the local culture, try Montenegrin cuisine, and prepare mentally for the spectacular days ahead. This is your chance to rest those legs before the final push of the Peaks of the Balkans loop.
Plav to Vusanje
Walk around Lake Plav and into the dramatic Ropojava Valley, where towering rock faces emerge on either side. The imposing Prokletije range (the "Accursed Mountains") dominates the landscape. Pass the scenic Grlja Waterfall and the vibrant blue "Eye of the Grasshopper" spring before reaching Vusanje.

Vusanje to Theth - The Grand Finale
The final and most spectacular day of the Peaks of the Balkans loop! Cross the Peja Pass (1,795m) back into Albania with breathtaking views of Mount Arapi. A long, zigzagging descent provides stunning vistas of the Theth valley floor and surrounding peaks, bringing you full circle to where your journey began.

Today marks a significant transition as we journey from the rugged northern Peaks of the Balkans to the sun-drenched landscapes of southeastern Albania. This is a long but picturesque drive, connecting you deeply with the country's diverse topography.
We'll depart from Theth and head towards Permet, with an estimated driving time of over eight hours. Along the way, we'll make a stop at Tirana airport to facilitate participant exchanges, ensuring a seamless continuation of our adventure.
Upon arrival in Permet, known as the "City of Roses," we'll settle into the charming Villa Permet, a delightful guesthouse that promises comfort and local hospitality. Get ready to experience a different side of Albania!
Today, immerse yourself in the untouched beauty of Southern Albania as we embark on a rewarding 20-kilometer hike. Traverse ancient, rural trails connecting Permet to the historic mountain village of Frasher, a place steeped in Albanian cultural heritage. Experience the serene landscapes and the quiet charm of a community seemingly untouched by time.

Continue your journey through the serene landscapes of Southern Albania with a challenging but rewarding 21-kilometer trek. Today's route winds through ancient paths and rolling hills, connecting the historic village of Frasher to the charming community of Cilim. Prepare for stunning vistas and the unique opportunity to experience authentic rural Albanian life.

Today’s journey takes us deeper into the heart of rural Albania with a rewarding 19-kilometer hike from Cilim to the secluded village of Rungade. Here, we'll immerse ourselves in authentic rural life at a traditional local sheep farm, with the option for a unique camping experience under the stars.
The evening promises an unforgettable culinary delight: a special, local-style lamb roast prepared over an open fire, a true taste of Albanian hospitality in a stunning mountain setting.

Today, our journey continues with a rewarding 19-kilometer trek through the stunning Southern Albanian landscape to the fabled village of Voskopoje. Once a vibrant cultural and commercial hub, Voskopoje is now celebrated for its rich history, ancient churches, and unique stone architecture. The path promises scenic vistas as we approach this captivating destination.
Upon arrival, we'll settle into the charming Pashuta Guest House, a family-run establishment known for its warm hospitality and traditional ambiance. Enjoy an evening of local flavors and immerse yourself in the serene beauty of this historic mountain retreat.
Enjoy a well-deserved free day to immerse yourself in the rich history and tranquil beauty of Voskopoje. Once a prominent Balkan city, this charming village is now a treasure trove of cultural heritage, ancient churches, and serene landscapes.

Our final trekking day culminates with a scenic 14-kilometer hike from Voskopoje to Korce, often called the "City of Serenades." This journey offers stunning vistas as we descend into one of Albania’s most culturally significant cities. Prepare to be enchanted by Korce's vibrant atmosphere, rich history, and elegant architecture.

Upon arrival, we'll gather at the Korce Adventure Center to mark the successful completion of our South Albania trek. The evening promises a large, typical Albanian dinner, filled with local flavors and music, to celebrate our incredible journey. Overnight accommodation will be arranged at various charming locations throughout Korce.
As our unforgettable adventure through the stunning landscapes and rich culture of Southern Albania comes to a close, we offer flexible departure options to suit your onward travel plans from Korce.
A group transfer will be arranged from Korce to Tirana International Airport (TIA), ideal for flights departing in the afternoon (after 2 PM). Reflect on your journey and prepare for your return home.
For those wishing to extend their stay or with later flight schedules, a second group transfer will be provided to TIA. Enjoy an extra morning in Korce, perhaps for some last-minute souvenir shopping or a final coffee.
